LAST POST - JOHN FRANCIS DEAZLEY (PAST PRESIDENT, NZVVA)

It is with deep sadness that we advise the passing of John on 25 January in Waikato Hospital. 

He served a total of 14 years’ service in the NZ Army with RNZ Signals including 2 years in South Vietnam with 161 Field Battery RNZA.

John has given over 40 years’ service to the RSA movement including dealing with pension applications and welfare matters for veterans.  He served in various positions on Executive Committees at several RSAs and at a District level, including a Trustee of the Auckland District RSA Trust.

As a member of the NZ Vietnam Veterans Association, he served on the National Executive Committee and held the positions of National Vice President and National President during this time.

Rest in Peace John.  Thank you for your service.

LAST POST - Daphne Margaret Shaw (E215491)

It is with deep sadness that we advise the passing of Daphne on 2 December 2023. 

Lt Col (Retired) Daphne Shaw served with 1 ALSG at Vung Tau Hospital.  She joined the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps in 1969 as a sister.  Since that time she served in hospitals in all three Services within New Zealand and in NZ Force Hospital in Singapore and, notably, in 1971 for a year with No 1 Field Hospital, Vung Tau, South Vietnam, nursing Allied casualties requiring medical, surgical and intensive care.  She was awarded the Associate of the Royal Red Cross (ARRC) for her services in Vietnam.

During her service, Lt Col (Lieutenant Colonel) Retired D M Shaw demonstrated the highest professional standards in her care of Service and civilian patients and was an inspiration to junior nursing officers and medical staff.

A service to celebrate Daphne's life was held at the Founders Chapel of Remembrance, 117 Rickit Street, Taupo, on Saturday the 9th December.  Followed by a private cremation.  A further memorial service will be held for Daphne at the Clevedon Community Hall, 1 Papakura-Clevedon Road, Clevedon 2582 on 17th February 2024 at 1 pm.

Rest in Peace Daphne.  Thank you for your service.

Veterans' Affairs Website - "Learn About Our claims Process"

Veterans' Affairs have advised us that they have a new section on their website called "Learn about our Claims Process".  It contains information specifically for their clients.

It talks about processing times for claims, how to make a claim and what to expect after a claim has been made.  This is initial info and it will be updated quarterly on the website.

He has just published a coffee table book based on his letters to his wife Sue.  It is a fantastic read, and will ring all sorts of bells for our cohort.
